“Newbury Cancer Care targets expansion”
Newbury Cancer Care (NCC) is now ready to build on the success of its major project over recent years creating the Greenham Trust Wing at West Berkshire Community Hospital. This huge project was launched jointly with Newbury and Thatcham Hospital Building Trust as the Rosemary Appeal and as a result of the wonderful generosity of the local community, the new wing and a CT scanner are now fully functional. NCC is the parent charity for the Greenham Trust Wing and Rosemary Centre.
Following discussions with members of the local Clinical Commissioning Group, Cancer Leads, Healthwatch and other charities NCC is developing a programme to further enhance services which will help people with cancer at all stages. We would welcome contact from anyone who has had treatment for cancer, to advise us of gaps in the support that they experienced, so that we may develop our provision to better help those affected.
The local community has always supported the work of NCC, and over the last four years our focus has been concentrated on the Rosemary Appeal to build the magnificent new wing. NCC was founded as The Newbury & District Cancer Care Trust in 1984 and has provided enhanced services mainly for people with cancer, but also for some with end of life problems other than cancer. The charity continues to support people in the whole of West Berkshire. Briefly, NCC funded and maintains the four Rainbow Rooms in the community hospital, provides transport to hospital appointments etc by our wonderful volunteer drivers, supports physiotherapy, counselling, complementary therapy and can give grants in cases of hardship and also supports education programmes for doctors, nurses and allied professionals Further information is on the website https://www.newburycancercare.org.uk
