The Chain Office
Contact with CHAIN can be made through our office which is situated between Russell Marshall and the Library in Church Street, CHAIN, Unit 9, Russell Marshall, High Street, Hungerford, RG170NL, and the telephone number is 01488 683727.
The office is manned (usually by Ladies) by ten volunteers who work in pairs each day from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m… They can call upon several other volunteers should the need arise. There is an answerphone when the office is closed.
The majority of the work involves the request for transport to one of the local medical centres or further afield to hospitals. These requests have to be co-ordinated with one of our volunteer Drivers, who use their own cars.

Although CHAIN is a charity, it is requested that a fare of .45p per mile is made to help defray some of the cost of the journey.Our drivers receive a token payment of .45p per mile travelled, (they give their time freely).
Some of the journeys can be time consuming, if they are to Oxford, Reading or Swindon Hospitals, but can also rewarding.
Help is given at each destination, at reception desks etc., so that the client is at their ease with their visit to Hospital or other appointment.
The office staff do get requests for help other than transport, from time to time and if we are able to help we will, as our motto is on the lines of ‘’if we don’t know, we know a man (or Lady) who does’’
